The Hotel Monterrey is located in a quiet residential area in picturesque natural surroundings, surrounded by pine trees with direct access to a long, sandy beach.

The Emporda region has been populated for many years, and the signs of ancient peoples can still be seen today in the dolmens at Fitor, the ruins of the town of Ullastret, the Jewish quarter of Girona, the Roman ruins of Empúries, in the medieval towns of Pals, Peratallada and Monells, the castle of Montgrí, not to mention the monasteries and churches scattered throughout the region.

All these historical traces have made the Emporda region a source of inspiration for writers and artists like Josep Pla or Salvador Dalí, who left us Púbol Castle or the Dali Museum at Figueres.

Music is another deeply rooted manifestation of the region’s inspiration with “havaneres” (sea shanties) accompanied by “cremat” hot liquor, traditional dancing with “sardanes”, and the international music festivals of Peralada,Torroella de Montgrí or Cap Roig, which are now well-established cultural events in the area.

More popular festivals are also important in the county with the Girona Flower Festival and the floral creations on display throughout the city’s historical centre, with craft and antique fairs and medieval markets.

Popular festivals such as the carnival, the fiery summer celebrations of Sant Joan or the religious Easter processions among many others all make up the cultural agenda of the area. The county of the Baix Empordà has some of the most beautiful scenery in the Mediterranean region as well as a pleasant climate with sunny days even in winter, bringing out the beauty of the area all year round.
